Easy Image Editing Online

Written by WideOpenAdmin on June 14, 2011 | Leave a Comment

Online Photo Editor Pixlr LogoWide Open is a web design & web hosting company, but on a daily basis we also do website maintenance.  A lot of our daily maintenance includes adding products to online stores which involves some minor image editing (resizing, cropping, ect).  Our hourly rate for maintenance like this is $65/hour.

Many clients ask if there is a way they can do this themselves so they can avoid the maintenance bill (which is understandable).  I used to tell them not unless they own an image editor to resize their images and make them web ready.  But now I have some great news.  There is a website which you can do image editing online.  The website is called Pixlr.com.

This website has been around since 2009, however I just discovered it today.  The site is great as you can do pretty much any kind image editing in PhotoShop on this website.  This website will end up saving you hundreds to thousands in software costs and avoid the computer threats and virius that come with torrents and piracy websites.

You can check out all the details and various tools they offer at Pixlr.com.

Redesigned HockleyAndO’Donnell.com

Hockley and O'Donnell Insurance Company in PAToday we launched the redesigned website for local insurance agency Hockley & O’Donnell located in Gettysburg, PA.

Hockley & O’Donnell have been hosting with Wide Open for a long time and they came to us to update the design we had done for them previously while adding a little “pizazz” and search engine optimization.

We created and added a Flash based header to the site which also links to the sites individual categories.  We also added an RSS reader to the home page to pull the latest news from InsuranceJournal.com.  Lastly we added the Google Analytics code to the site as that was the preferred method Hockley and O’Donnell wanted to use to track their web traffic.

You can check out the entire website at www.HockleyAndODonnell.com.

If you have a website and are thinking of having it redesigned, please e-mail us or call us at 717-337-2424 (or 1-800-521-9688) for a free estimate.

New Sign Out Front

Written by WideOpenAdmin on April 29, 2011 | Leave a Comment

Today, we got a new sign installed in the front of our building located on 233 Buford Ave. Gettysburg, PA 17325. Wide Open created the design of the sign while Martin Design Group phsycially created it and installed it. This sign is an improvement over the last one as the last one didn’t include any of the services we offer. We included that in this design as well as some binary code in the background. If you’re in the Gettysburg area and you’re driving by, give us a honk!

Google Experiments with the +1 Button

Written by WideOpenAdmin on March 31, 2011 | Leave a Comment

This week, Google announced it’s latest experiment, The +1 Button. This button will let other Google users know which sites have been recommended or “Liked” but other Google users.

At the moment, this is only an experiment. If you want to join the experiment and start +1ing pages, you can enroll in the program at google.com/experimental. You will need a Google Profile in order to enroll in the experiment. Wide Open has already enrolled and we +1ed our own site (obviously).

The future of the +1 Button looks bright. Not only will the button have the social media aspect of it by letting other Google users know what’s popular, but the number of +1s will also help sites improve their Google ranking. In the future, they plan to add the +1 Button to the search engine advertisements. This way users can see which ads or sales are positive or are recommended by other users.

Below is video which Google made which explains the +1 Button in further detail. If you sign up for the experiment, be sure to +1 Wide Open Communications!
